Exception queue

An exception queue is the working list of orders that could not be processed automatically, ordered so that the work needing a human decision is visible first.

The design of this queue is most of the user experience of an order-automation product. A good one makes four things obvious without a click: what needs a decision, why, what resolves it, and what happens next.

Exception-first ordering matters because the alternative — a chronological list of everything — hides the ten orders that are blocked among the ninety that are fine.
